Guide to Content Deployment in SharePoint 2010

The purpose of this guide is to show how to create a content deployment job in SharePoint 2010.
Content deployment refers to the process of copying content from a source site collection to a destination site collection. These site collections should be in different web applications (or different farms).
For this tutorial I have created two web applications:
WebApplications
For the Source site collection you can create a site collection with any template you need. For the Destination site collection create the site collection, but choose “< Select template later… >”:
select template later
You can find all the settings pages related to content deployment in the Central Administration, in the General Application Settings tab, in the Content Deployment section:

Now, having everyting prepared, let’s start the real work:
  1. Setup content deployment: go to Configure content deployment and allow incoming content deployment jobs
    content deployment settings
Please note that in my test environment i have also selected Do not require encryption. You should always use encryption in production environments.
  2. Create a content deployment path: go to Configure content deployment paths and jobs
manage content deployment paths and jobs
  3. Create the content deployment job:
    create content deployment job
  4. Configure the newly created job:
    configure content deployment job
  5. Run the deployment job:
    run content deploymnet job
  6. After you run the job, on the same page you can view the status of the job:
    monitor job status
  7. When the job is complete, you can review the job report:
    review content deployment report
